Thrifty Thursday

This outfit has quickly become one of my go to outfits for the summer.  I love this navy polka dot top!  I have worn it a ton since I picked up and find it to be very versatile.  I especially love the length of the blouse and sleeves.  It's modest, comfortable, and faltering to my body type.

I've been on the hunt for some bright colored skinny jeans and finally found a pair!  I was so happy to find these yellow pants in my size and happier to discover they were brand new from Ann Taylor.  I've been thrifting for several years and I have found some amazing deals on new designer pieces.  When I find them they tend to be an unusual color, pattern or have a minor flaw.  This doesn't bother me though, because I am usually getting an amazing deal.

The break down:

Navy polka dot blouse-$2.98 (Value Thrift)
Ann Taylor yellow skinny Jeans-$6.99 (Goodwill)
*The shoes were a gift, but they are Merona available at Target.

Total-$9.97

Molly Murphy Mysteries: In a Gilded Cage

Looking for a good book?  I recently read "In a Gilded Cage" by Rys Bowen and loved it!  I checked it out at the library and didn't realize it was part of a series.  It's apparently number eight in a series of 16 called the Molly Murphy Mysteries. Since reading this book I have read more in the series and although it helps to have read the previous books,  you would enjoy it on it's own.

Here is the summary from the back of the book:

"It’s Easter Sunday 1918, and Irish immigrant Molly Murphy has agreed to march down Fifth Avenue with the sign-wielding suffragettes from Vassar—a civil act of protest that lands her in jail. Molly’s betrothed, Police Captain Daniel Sullivan, manages to spring her from the clink, though his hands are full dealing with Chinese opium gangs. But as soon as she’s free, Molly marches straight into trouble again. Two of the Vassar alumni need Molly’s help as a private investigator. One believes her uncle is cheating her out of an inheritance; the other suspects her husband is cheating with other women. And when one of the clients dies—presumably from influenza, which is sweeping the city—Molly takes to the streets once more. Not to win the right for women to vote, but to reveal the wrongs of some very evil men…"

"Fabulous Las Vegas" Coaster Set

My husband and I thrifted this "Fabulous Las Vegas"  metal souvenir coaster set for a buck.   There are a total of eight coasters featuring famous Las Vegas landmarks, specifically: The Golden Nugget, Hilton, The Grand Hotel , The Landmark, The Stardust, The Desert Inn, The Sahara, The Dunes, Caesars Palace, Circus Circus, and the Hoover Dam.

After doing some research I'm guessing they are from the 70's or 80's, because the Hilton was only called the Hilton from 1971 to 2012 and the Landmark was only open from 1969 to 1990.  This means the only time frame where both hotels existed was from 1971 to 1990.

Jason Invigorating Rosewater Body Wash

I've decided to change things up a bit with a product review.  My favorite scent is rose, so when I come across something rosey I want to try it.  I found this at Whole Foods where it retails for $14.99, but recently was on sale for $7.99.  I saw this as my opportunity to give it a try.

Jason products are cruelty-free and vegetarian, which is something I check for before purchasing products.  I really enjoy using this since it lathers, cleans and moisturizes well.  It also has a lasting scent. The $14.99 price tag is a little steep for me, but when compared to similar products at Whole Foods it is good value for money.  I usually use a basic vegetable glycerin soap, so I consider this to be a treat.  I will will definitely pick it up again in the future, especially if it is on sale.

Libbey Orange Lotus Glassware

My husband and I picked up six of these glasses for a quarter each at a local thrift store.  We guessed that they were from the 70's, but wanted more information.  The bottom of the glasses are stamped with a Libbey trademark.

I found a website called Libbey Glass History, which is a great resource for Libbey collectors.   It has an archive of trademarks and catalogs dating back to 1892.  My glasses were in a catalog from 1975.  I currently have two sets of the 13oz beverage glasses.

My Dream Bathroom

I have been obsessed with having a jade bathroom for so long.  My Grandparent's bathroom had jade colored tile for many years and I guess this is what inspired my obsession.  I always loved their bathroom.  Their home was built in the 50's and they added the green tile in the 60's.  They have since updated it and it was impossible to find pictures of it before the renovations, but I was able to find a couple pictures taken during the renovation.

As I have become more and more obsessed I have discovered the Art Deco jade and mint green bathrooms.  My pinterest is chalked full of pictures of these beautiful bathrooms.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Mason Jar Bathroom Storage

I wanted to do something quick and easy to spruce up my bathroom, so I took a few mason jars from around the house and used them to organize cotton balls/pads and q-tips.  I think it turned out well.  Cute and functional!
